STRIDE

Center for Solutions Through Research in Diet & Exercise

History

STRIDE History

The Cal Poly Kinesiology Department founded STRIDE in 2007 under the original name of Center for Obesity Prevention and Education (COPE). Under the leadership of founding director, Dr. Ann Y. McDermott, STRIDE evolved into a dynamic and interdisciplinary research organization committed to promoting healthy eating and active living.

Over the years, the STRIDE team expanded to include faculty and students from more than a dozen departments and all of Cal Poly's six colleges. This collective expertise has allowed STRIDE to engage a wide variety of partners in the national conversation about obesity prevention and education. Today, STRIDE continues to thrive, working to achieve its mission.
