Our goal is to translate research and science into actionable programs and policy that will improve communities.

Our Mission

To advance knowledge and practice in obesity prevention and treatment by conducting cutting edge, interdisciplinary research, fostering collaborative partnerships among faculty, students and community and providing Learn by Doing experiences to develop the next generation of leaders.

Our Values

Innovative & Sustainable Solutions

We think and act creatively, knowing that sustainable improvements in education, policy, behavior and environments are key to improving our nation's health.

Commitment to Community

We engage in community-based, participatory efforts to inspire our research, programs and student leadership opportunities.

Quality & Excellence

Our team of experts excels at providing diverse communities with the highest quality solutions.

Health Equity

We identify and work to overcome disparities that prevent people from achieving sustained optimal health.

Our Team

STRIDE is an interdisciplinary team of students, faculty and community partners. STRIDE students and faculty represent every college at Cal Poly and work together with a wide range of community organizations across San Luis Obispo county and beyond.

"STRIDE is a growing, dynamic program, and an excellent example of our Learn by Doing approach. Our faculty work closely with our students to provide rich opportunities to test their knowledge on real-world challenges. As a result, STRIDE students are acquiring skills that will distinguish them when they enter the workforce."

- Cal Poly President Jeffrey D. Armstrong
