About STRIDE

The Cal Poly Kinesiology department founded STRIDE in 2007, with the original name of COPE (Center for Obesity Prevention and Education). Since its creation, it has developed research studies and programs to improve the health status and knowledge of the greater community. Its multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary teams have embedded all aspects of healthy living in its programs, promoting exercise, nutrition and health awareness among all ages. By doing so, STRIDE has been able to bring about positive changes in the lifestyle habits of middle school students, mothers and families and college students.

STRIDE designs programs to be accessible, affordable and most importantly, effective. Our research is collaborative and comprehensive. The expertise of faculty members from across all of Cal Poly’s six colleges has enabled STRIDE to approach obesity-related issues in a multidisciplinary fashion, engaging students and community in our innovative work.
